High Street

Your Neighbourhood Policing Team is made up of Kent Police beat officers who are dedicated to keeping your community safe. They focus on preventing crime and antisocial behaviour, responding to local concerns, and building strong relationships with residents, community groups and local businesses.

Our officers will:

  • patrol to deter crime and reassure the public

  • hold regular engagement activities in the area, including attending community meetings to share advice and listen to concerns

  • work with partner agencies including councils, schools, charities, and local groups

  • tackle issues like antisocial behaviour, repeat offending, and vulnerability

  • build trust by being visible, approachable, and responsive

Neighbourhood policing is a key part of Kent Police’s commitment to being community-focused, visible, and responsive.

Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Antisocial behaviour - nuisance.

Issued 14 April 2026

Community Protection Notices have been issued to individuals causing ongoing nuisance in the town centre, mainly linked to alcohol. A Community Protection Notice is a legal notice used to stop antisocial behaviour from continuing.

High‑visibility patrols are ongoing on foot, by bike and by vehicle, supported by town ambassadors.

With support from special constables, traffic enforcement is also taking place on restricted roads near the High Street to prevent nuisance vehicles.

Drug taking.

Issued 14 April 2026

Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) enforcement is continuing in the High Street to tackle alcohol and drug-related issues. A PSPO is a legal order used to prevent antisocial behaviour in public places.

Officers have seized alcohol, particularly around Gabriel’s Hill following reports of evening antisocial behaviour. Two individuals have been issued with Community Protection Notices, which are legal notices to stop ongoing nuisance behaviour.

We continue to use antisocial behaviour powers to address these issues and are applying for a Criminal Behaviour Order. This is a court order that places restrictions on someone to prevent further offending.

E-scooters/e-bikes.

Issued 14 April 2026

Officers are carrying out daily enforcement to tackle the illegal use of e‑scooters and e‑bikes.

So far, 198 e‑scooters and 40 illegal e‑bikes have been seized. Compliance is improving, with fewer being seen in the area.

A tagging system has also been introduced for legal e‑bikes. This helps officers identify bikes that have been checked and meet legal requirements.
