Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Road safety issues.

Issued 03 February 2026

PC Howard continues to take robust action against traffic offences in the Newington ward. When offences are witnessed, he uses powers under the Road Traffic Act to stop vehicles, deal appropriately with drivers and promote safer roads for everyone.

Regular proactive vehicle checks are carried out in the area to deter poor driving habits and help ensure all road users remain safe.

Please keep telling PC Howard what matters to you by attending his ward surgeries or contacting him on My Community Voice. If you don’t have an account, you can choose to sign up by searching for ‘My Community Voice’ online.

Drug dealing.

Issued 03 February 2026

Drug activity can cause serious problems for any community, and residents were right to make this a priority for the ward. PC Howard has been working hard to identify people dealing drugs and to stop drugs being brought into Newington and the wider Thanet area. He has carried out several searches in the ward, resulting in drugs being found, removed and destroyed.

Alongside enforcement work, PC Howard and his colleagues have been speaking with young people who have been using drugs such as cannabis. They have been given advice, support and information to help them make safer choices and prevent the situation from escalating. All of this work helps reduce harm and keep the community safer.
Please continue to tell PC Howard about anything that concerns you by attending his ward surgeries or contacting him on My Community Voice. If you don’t have an account, you can choose to sign up by searching for ‘My Community Voice’ online.

Drink/drug driving.

Issued 03 February 2026

PC Howard has been stopping vehicles to make sure drivers are safe and not under the influence of drink or drugs. He speaks with drivers, checks their behaviour and uses his legal powers when he suspects someone may be impaired. When offences are identified, individuals are arrested, charged and taken to court because of the danger their actions pose.

Keeping the roads safe is very important to PC Howard, as driving under the influence can seriously harm people. This remains one of his key priorities, and he will continue to take firm action to protect everyone who lives in and travels through the area.

Please continue to tell PC Howard where issues are happening so he can respond. You can speak to him at his ward surgeries or contact him via My Community Voice. If you do not yet have an account, you can choose to sign up by searching for “My Community Voice” online.
