Margate Central

Your Neighbourhood Policing Team is made up of Kent Police beat officers who are dedicated to keeping your community safe. They focus on preventing crime and antisocial behaviour, responding to local concerns, and building strong relationships with residents, community groups and local businesses.

Our officers will:

  • patrol to deter crime and reassure the public

  • hold regular engagement activities in the area, including attending community meetings to share advice and listen to concerns

  • work with partner agencies including councils, schools, charities, and local groups

  • tackle issues like antisocial behaviour, repeat offending, and vulnerability

  • build trust by being visible, approachable, and responsive

Neighbourhood policing is a key part of Kent Police’s commitment to being community-focused, visible, and responsive.

Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Antisocial behaviour.

Issued 16 April 2026

PC Smith and PC Beard are working with Thanet District Council to tackle antisocial behaviour (ASB) in the Margate area.

Officers have issued Community Protection Warnings and Notices to individuals causing ongoing problems. These are formal actions used to stop antisocial behaviour. A new Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) is also planned, which will give officers stronger powers to manage issues such as street drinking. A PSPO is a legal order used to prevent antisocial behaviour in specific areas.

For those who repeatedly cause problems, Criminal Behaviour Orders may be sought. These are court orders that place restrictions on individuals to prevent further offending.

Officers are also working with the Child Centred Policing Team to address antisocial behaviour involving young people. This includes identifying those responsible, carrying out home visits and using early intervention to prevent further issues. Where necessary, young people can be directed to leave the area or taken home to ensure their safety and the safety of others.

Residents are encouraged to continue sharing concerns through local ward surgeries or My Community Voice (an online two-way messaging service used to report issues and receive updates).

Shoplifting.

Issued 16 April 2026

Officers are working closely with local shops to tackle shoplifting and support businesses.

Regular visits are carried out to help ensure incidents are reported and properly investigated. Officers work with staff to gather evidence, identify those involved and take action where offences are identified.

Businesses are encouraged to report thefts so appropriate action can be taken.

Drug taking .

Issued 16 April 2026

Police take action against drug use to help keep the community safe and prevent further harm.

Depending on the situation, officers may arrest individuals, issue a caution (a formal warning), or use a Community Resolution (an out‑of‑court outcome to deal with lower‑level offences and encourage behaviour change).

These approaches help ensure that people understand the impact of their actions while also supporting longer‑term behaviour change.

Residents are encouraged to continue sharing concerns through local ward surgeries or My Community Voice (an online two-way messaging service used to report issues and receive updates).
