Road safety.

Issued 03 February 2026

We have carried out regular patrols across Deal, both on foot and in police vehicles, to address road safety concerns raised by residents.

Officers have also set up checkpoints at key routes into and out of the town. This has allowed us to deal with unsafe driving, check speeds and take action where traffic offences are seen. The use of uniformed officers and clearly marked police vehicles in visible locations has helped encourage drivers to slow down, making the roads safer for everyone.

During this work, several drivers have been spoken to and given advice or warnings about their driving standards and seatbelt use. This helps reinforce the importance of keeping themselves, passengers and other road users safe.

We have also taken firm action against illegal e‑scooter use. A number of e‑scooters have been seized because they were being used without insurance or involved in traffic offences. Some riders have also been given advice to help them understand the law. As a result, we are seeing fewer illegally used e‑scooters, particularly in the town centre and on main roads. Further action days are planned to continue this work.

In addition, officers have carried out road safety checkpoints where vehicles are stopped and document checks are completed. This helps ensure drivers are correctly licensed and insured.

If you have information about unsafe driving or illegal e‑scooter use, please contact your local officer, PC 14596 Waymark.

E-scooters.

Issued 03 February 2026

We have taken ongoing action to deal with unsafe and illegal use of e‑scooters and other electric vehicles in Deal.

A number of e‑scooters have been seized because they were being used without insurance or involved in traffic offences. Some riders have also been spoken to and given advice to help them understand the law. As a result of this work, we are seeing fewer e‑scooters being used illegally, particularly in the town centre and on local roads. Further action days are planned to continue tackling unsafe or illegal use.

We have also found that some residents are unclear about what is legal. Vehicles such as e‑scooters, electric skateboards, electric unicycles and electric bikes that are powered without pedal assistance are all treated the same under the law. To be used legally on the road, they would need a driving licence, insurance and registration with the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA). As these vehicles cannot currently be registered, they are not legal to use on public roads, pavements or other public spaces.

If you have information about illegal use of e‑scooters or other electric vehicles, please contact your local officer, PC 14596 Waymark.

Vehicle crime.

Issued 03 February 2026

Vehicle crime was identified as a priority in Deal after reports showed it was increasing. Officers took action to investigate these offences and identify the person responsible.
This work led to the arrest, charge and remand of the offender, who later received a custodial sentence in court. This has helped address concerns raised by residents and reduce further offending.

We shared this outcome with the local community through the Kent Police website, My Community Voice and local Facebook pages. We also provided advice to help residents better protect their vehicles and reduce the risk of becoming a victim of vehicle crime.

If you have information about vehicle crime in your area, please contact your local officer, PC 14596 Waymark.
