Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Road safety issues.

Issued 14 April 2026

Road safety has been identified as a key priority in the Eastry ward, with concerns about speeding, unsafe driving and the safety of pedestrians. Kent Police will continue to carry out targeted patrols, speed checks and work with road users to encourage safer driving. Officers will also stop vehicles to check that drivers have the correct documents, such as a valid driving licence and insurance, and to make sure vehicles are safe and meet legal standards. By working with partner organisations, police will identify problem areas and take action against those who put others at risk. The community is encouraged to report concerns and share information to help address these issues.

Drink/drug driving.

Issued 14 April 2026

Drink and drug driving has been identified as a priority in the Sandwich ward due to the serious risk it poses to road users and the wider community. Kent Police will carry out proactive patrols, roadside checks and targeted operations to identify and prevent this type of offending. Officers can require drivers to provide a breath test for alcohol or a saliva test for drugs at the roadside, and action will be taken against anyone found to be over the legal limit.

Over the last month, there have been at least 3 arrests for drink driving in Sandwich. We encourage residents to report concerns or suspected incidents so we can take action and help keep roads in the area safe for everyone.

Nuisance motorcycles.

Issued 14 April 2026

Nuisance motorcycles have been identified as a priority in the Sandwich ward, as they can cause noise, disruption and put people at risk. Kent Police will carry out targeted patrols in areas where these issues are reported and take action against riders who are using vehicles illegally or in an antisocial way. This may include stopping vehicles and, where appropriate, seizing motorcycles.

We will also work with partner organisations to help address this behaviour. Residents are encouraged to report incidents and share any information, as this helps us build a clearer picture of the problem and take effective action.
