Local Priority Issues

Priority Action taken

Road safety.

Issued 16 April 2026

PC Swan has increased patrols in the area to tackle poor driving and improve road safety. As part of this work, he has issued Traffic Offence Reports (TOR) and spoken directly with drivers about safe and legal driving. A TOR is a formal record created by police when someone is suspected of committing a road traffic offence. Depending on the circumstances, this can result in a fixed penalty notice, a driver education course or a court appearance. Over the past 3 months, several vehicles have been seized due to safety concerns about the way they were being driven, as well as other road traffic offences. PC Swan is also exploring opportunities to introduce future Speedwatch campaigns. Speedwatch is a community scheme that allows trained volunteers to work alongside the police to monitor vehicle speeds in their local area. The aim is to raise awareness of speeding, encourage safer driving and help make local communities safer for everyone.

Highway obstructions.

Issued 16 April 2026

While on patrol, PC Swan has focused on improving road safety by addressing vehicles that are parked in a way that causes a dangerous obstruction to other road users or pedestrians. Where appropriate, he has contacted the registered keeper and asked for the vehicle to be moved. He has also provided advice and education to drivers about the risks associated with careless or inconsiderate parking, as well as the potential consequences of leaving vehicles in positions that could endanger others. Obstructing roads and pavements can create safety risks for motorists, cyclists, wheelchair users and pedestrians, particularly in busy areas. PC Swan's approach has been to educate drivers and encourage safer behaviour in the first instance, helping to prevent future problems while improving road safety across the community.

Dog fouling.

Issued 16 April 2026

PC Swan has worked closely with Dartford Borough Council to complete training that enables him to issue fines to people who breach a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO). A PSPO is a legal order introduced by a local council to tackle behaviours that have a negative impact on the community, such as dog fouling, littering or other forms of antisocial behaviour. As part of his patrols, PC Swan has also identified locations where additional dog waste bins may be needed and has shared this information with the relevant agencies. This work aims to make it easier for dog owners to dispose of waste responsibly, helping to keep public spaces clean, safe and enjoyable for everyone.
