Dear, Resident
π Firework Safety Advice for Bonfire Night and Celebrations πAs many people enjoy fireworks at organised displays and at home, we are reminding residents to stay safe and know what to do if an accident occurs.
Attending an Organised Firework Displayβ Follow the instructions of event organisers and stewards. β Stand in designated viewing areas and respect any safety barriers. β Keep children under close supervision at all times. β Never attempt to pick up or relight a firework that has failed to go off. β Be mindful of others, particularly those who may be affected by loud noises, including young children, elderly residents, and pet owners. Using Fireworks at Homeβ Only buy fireworks from reputable retailers and ensure they carry the UKCA or CE safety mark. β Read and follow the instructions carefully before use. β Store fireworks in a closed box and keep them away from naked flames. β Light fireworks one at a time using a taper and stand well back. β Keep spectators at a safe distance. β Never return to a firework once it has been lit. β Never throw fireworks or carry them in your pocket. β Keep pets indoors where possible and create a calm environment for them. β Have a bucket of water or garden hose nearby in case of emergency. If Someone Suffers a BurnMost minor burns can be treated using the following first aid steps: COOLRun the burn under cool running water for at least 20 minutes as soon as possible. REMOVECarefully remove any jewellery, watches, belts, or loose clothing near the burn before swelling occurs. Do not remove clothing stuck to the skin. COVERCover the burn with cling film, a sterile dressing, or a clean non-fluffy cloth. SEEK MEDICAL HELPCall NHS 111, visit a minor injuries unit, or seek urgent medical treatment if: Do Not:β Apply butter, oils, creams, toothpaste, or ice to a burn. β Burst any blisters. β Touch the burned area unnecessarily. In an EmergencyIf someone has suffered a serious injury, is unconscious, has breathing difficulties, or their clothing has caught fire, call 999 immediately. We hope everyone enjoys the festivities safely and respectfully. Please look out for your neighbours and report any anti-social or dangerous use of fireworks to Kent Police via the appropriate reporting channels.
Stay safe and enjoy Bonfire Night. ππ
