🚗 Keeping your car safeAlways lock your vehicle, even when it is parked on your driveway or you are only leaving it briefly. Check the windows and sunroof are fully closed. Remove valuables from view. Bags, coats, phones, tools and other belongings can attract opportunistic thieves. Keep your keys secure at home, out of sight and away from doors, windows and letterboxes. Protect keyless vehicles. Keep both the main and spare keys in a signal-blocking Faraday pouch, and test the pouch periodically to make sure it still blocks the signal. Consider a visible steering-wheel lock or other physical security device. This provides an additional layer of protection rather than relying solely on the car's electronic security. Park securely where possible, ideally in a locked garage or somewhere well-lit and overlooked. Never leave the engine running unattended, including while warming or de-icing the vehicle. Protect number plates and catalytic converters. Anti-tamper number-plate screws and additional catalytic-converter security can help reduce vulnerability. Don't assume the vehicle has locked. Physically check it, particularly where criminals could potentially use signal-jamming equipment. Car security guidance also recommends checking rather than relying solely on the key fob.
