🚨 Community Update: Motorbike Theft, Attempted Theft and Nuisance Riding 🚨

Good morning Resident,

Over recent weeks we have received reports of motorcycles being stolen, attempts being made to steal motorcycles, and off-road/nuisance motorbike riding within our local area. I would like to reassure residents that these incidents are being actively investigated and local officers are carrying out enquiries, patrols and engagement work to identify those responsible. We are aware of the concerns these incidents cause, particularly where motorcycles are being ridden in an anti-social manner in parks, open spaces and residential areas.

Yesterday a red moped identified in a number of incidents was seized in Shoreham. Enquiries are ongoing in relation to this. 

Crime Prevention Advice

For Motorbike Owners:

✅ Use a quality disc lock and chain, securing the bike to an immovable object wherever possible.

✅ Consider fitting a tracker or approved alarm system.

✅ Park in a locked garage where available.

✅ Use a motorcycle cover to make the bike less identifiable and less attractive to thieves.

✅ Consider additional security such as ground anchors, CCTV and security lighting.

✅ Remove keys and never leave a motorcycle unattended with the engine running.

This information is often crucial in helping us identify offenders and take positive action.

When to Call Us

📞 999 if a theft is happening at the time, if offenders are present, or there is an immediate risk to public safety.

📞 101 or report online for incidents that have already occurred.

We understand the impact that vehicle crime and anti-social riding have on our community and we will continue to target offenders and patrol identified hotspot areas.
