Operation Odin - Tackling Retail Crime in Folkestone Town Centre |

We would like to update you on some positive work recently undertaken by your local Neighbourhood Policing Team.
Last week, officers took part in Operation Odin. The objective of the Operation being to deter and disrupt retail crime, identify and arrest offenders, support local businesses, gather intelligence and provide a visible policing presence to help keep Folkestone Town Centre a safe and welcoming place for residents, visitors and retailers.

• Conducted numerous enquiries to locate an outstanding suspect wanted in connection with a theft investigation.
• Responded to an ANPR activation relating to a vehicle associated with shoplifting offences in Surrey. Police engagement with the occupants deterred them from remaining in the area.
• Carried out several stop checks involving known individuals in the town centre, identifying outstanding matters and engaging with those involved.
• Conducted three searches under Section 23 of the Misuse of Drugs Act.
• Identified and stopped a known individual matching the description of a suspect involved in a shoplifting offence reported the previous evening. The male was arrested and subsequently remanded in custody due to existing licence conditions before being presented at court.
• Recorded details of a reported low-value theft whilst on foot patrol and secured property linked to the incident as evidence.
• Quickly identified a prolific shoplifting suspect from the Canterbury area following an attempted theft of approximately £95 worth of alcohol. Thanks to the actions of store security staff, the goods were recovered before any loss occurred. Searches were conducted and enquiries remain ongoing to locate the suspect.
• Assisted in removing an intoxicated male from retail premises after his behaviour caused concern to members of the public. No offences were disclosed and he was given appropriate words of advice.
• Seized alcohol from a group of youths. Subsequent enquiries established the alcohol had been stolen. A crime report has been submitted, appropriate action is being taken and parents have been informed.
• Responded to reports of drug use behind a charity shop. Although those involved had left before officers arrived, a discarded uncapped needle was located and safely disposed of.
• Submitted three intelligence reports to support ongoing policing activity and investigations.
Why this matters: Operations such as Odin demonstrate our continued commitment to working with retailers and the wider community to tackle retail crime, protect businesses and make Folkestone town centre a safer place for everyone.
