August : Wincheap Ward Update

We're now well into the height of the summer, and with that comes a range of challenges. With children off school, the hot weather, and increasing demands across the district, it's a busy time for policing. Despite this, I remain committed to being visible in the community and tackling the issues that matter most to local residents.

Following a recent community survey, three new priorities have been identified for the Wincheap Ward. These are nuisance motorcycles, road safety issues and drug dealing. These priorities will be a focus for me over the coming months alongside day-to-day policing. If you have any information that may assist with any of these issues, please get in touch. Information from the community is invaluable in helping me target the right areas and identify those responsible.

In response to reports of anti-social behaviour and nuisance vehicles, I have been carrying out regular patrols along the River Stour footpath between Canterbury and Chartham. This targeted activity has already resulted in one arrest, and I will continue to patrol the area regularly and deal robustly with any offences that come to light. If you see anything suspicious, please report it via 101, or 999 if a crime is taking place or there is an immediate risk to safety.

While patrolling the Thanington area recently, I have also carried out a number of positive stop searches, resulting in illicit drugs being removed from the community. Tackling drug-related activity remains a priority, and I will continue using a mixture of enforcement, disruption and engagement to address these issues and make our neighbourhoods safer.

With the warmer weather, many people are understandably leaving windows open to keep their homes cool. Please remember that this can create opportunities for opportunist burglars. If you're going out, make sure your windows are secure, your doors are locked, and valuables are kept out of sight. The same applies to vehicles, so please ensure they are locked and that nothing valuable is left on display.

We have also seen a small number of fires across the Canterbury area over the past couple of weeks. If you're having a barbecue or bonfire, please take extra care and ensure they are properly supervised and fully extinguished afterwards.

Finally, I'll be at the Thanington Fun Day today between 1200hrs and 1500hrs. If you're attending, please come and say hello. It's always great to meet residents, answer questions and hear about any concerns you may have.
