Off-Road Motorcycles |

Hello all
Yesterday I received a couple of reports about off-road motorcycles being ridden on the footpath through the woods between Church Lane New Romney and Dunes Road Greatstone, apart from this being illegal it is extremely dangerous and it must stop. I know that this has been an issue for many years on land at the bottom of Church Lane but I have clarified recently with the landowner that permission has NOT been given to anyone to ride dirt bikes or any other vehicle on that land. There are strict guidelines and laws stating what is required about riding off-road bikes and all of this information is on the internet but in summary, you cannot ride off-road motorcycles on public land, footpaths, roads etc. In addition to any Road Traffic Offences that are committed, Section 59 of The Police Reform Act 2002 can also be used. In summary Section 59 applies to any motor vehicle and its driver/rider when there is or has been careless driving/riding or off-road driving/riding and is causing or likely to cause alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public. This power can ultimately lead to the seizure of the vehicle and the driver/rider being reported for any offences committed. I can predict some of the comments on social media about me being the 'fun police' etc etc however, I make no apology for this post as lives are at risk by this inconsiderate behaviour, in fact whilst walking along the footpath I came across a family with young children and a dog and from what I was told by another witness about the motorcycles being ridden at speed and appearing around blind bends on the path you can only imagine what devastation this could cause.
If anyone has any information about these bikes and who owns them etc please let me know by email.
Thank you Steve. | ||
