I wanted to provide you with an update regarding E-Scooters/nuisance motorcycles, which people around your area have highlighted as an issue of concern on the priority survey. You raised the issue, I actioned it!
This weekend, Medway officers delivered a major crackdown on nuisance vehicles across the district—an operation led by PC 30679 and PC 30609, with outstanding support from CSU, CCPT, NTF, and Traffic.
Over three days, teams worked tirelessly across Chatham, Gillingham, Lordswood, Hempstead Valley, Strood, and Rochester, targeting illegal e scooters, off road bikes, and individuals causing harm or disruption in our communities. We’re proud to share that BBC News attended, capturing officers in action—including drone deployments by our Special Constables.
And the results speak for themselves:
📅 Day 1 – Friday 20th Chatham, Gillingham • 8 stop searches completed in Chatham High Street o Cannabis located and seized on 2 searches • 16 e scooters seized • 1 electric bike seized • 1 Suron bike seized
📅 Day 2 – Saturday 21st Gillingham, Chatham, Lordswood • 5 e scooters seized • 1 modified e bike • 2 modified off road bikes • 1 arrest for a female wanted on an FTA warrant • BBC filmed officers seizing scooters and drone operations in Barnfield
📅 Day 3 – Sunday 22nd Despite being redeployed to support major investigations—including a wanted rape suspect and a serious collision—officers continued to deliver results: • 2 e scooters seized • 1 electric bike • 1 off road bike • 1 stop search • 1 VAWG arrest for common assault ×2, false imprisonment, and C&C • TOR issued
🚔 Total: 30 Vehicles Seized This was a high impact, high visibility operation, and the teamwork between CSU, CCPT, NTF, and Traffic was exceptional. Many of these vehicles were not easy to intercept, and the determination shown by officers across all three days demonstrates our commitment to tackling the issues raised by our communities. All of this was achieved while still supporting daily LPT demand, showing just how dedicated Medway officers are to keeping the district safe. This operation directly addresses local priorities and provides reassurance that Medway CSU is taking robust action against nuisance vehicles and associated criminality.

Advice and information can be found at Advice on e-scooter usage | Kent Police or What you need to know: electric bikes | Kent Police Tackling antisocial behaviour can be a complex issue, and one which requires input and action from more than just the police. February 2025 saw the publication of the Ministry of Justice Crime and Policing Bill: Antisocial behaviour (ASB) factsheet. This outlined a number of new measures including making powers to seize vehicles under section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002 easier to use, allowing the police to react robustly and immediately to the anti-social use of motor vehicles. If you ever experience this issue or have information regarding an incident, please report it using our online reporting tools at https://www.kent.police.uk, speak to an operator in our Force Communications Room via our online web chat or call the non-emergency number 101.
