Speeding and vehicle lights. |
||
|
Hello all
Just wanted to highlight a couple of things with regards to vehicle lights and speeds. I've noticed lately quite a few vehicles with one dipped headlight not working which in the dark looks like an overweight motorcycle coming towards me. It's always worth checking your lights before you set off, most modern vehicles will tell you if a lightbulb isn't working and in the dark having a headlight out would be quite noticeable from the driver's position. Most that I've seen are using their fog lights to compensate however, as you'll know unless it's foggy or visibility is really poor you shouldn't be using the fog lights. Also, there are the relevant Road Traffic Offences that you could fall foul to with regards to your lights. By the way, I've been in my own car some of the time and the times I've been in the police car I've not had the opportunity to stop the vehicles and advise the driver's of this.
One other thing to mention, I know that speeding is a problem countrywide and on the Marsh there are many roads where motorists are driving far too quickly whether that's exceeding the speed limit or driving too fast for the conditions but we all must try and adhere to the speed limits that are set for a reason whether you agree with them or not. I've attached the photo for those drivers and riders who use the bridge to try and take off as they obviously haven't seen the sign before! In all seriousness and any excess speed is a very serious matter, the signs are large and clear, none of us have any idea of what is at the other side of the bridge until we've cleared the brow so please slow down in time to be doing no more than 30 MPH when you get to the sign. As I've said, speed limits are important everywhere but I've used this particular one because there are no excuses with the size and clarity of both signs and the hazard of the bridge, a child's nursery just the other side of the bridge, oh and one last thing, a police station the other side of the bridge! (It's okay I've got broad shoulders to take all the jokes about never seeing a police officer on the Marsh, go for it!!)
Although I'm having a little bit of fun as I don't want to come across as being patronising, speed really is a factor in serious injury and fatal Road Traffic Collisions and as residents of the Marsh you have seen and heard far too many times the serious collisions that we've had over the years which devastate lives, so please please to those who have a heavy right foot drive within the speed limit for everyone's safety including your own.
Thank you Steve.
