Doorstep Cold Callers - Isle Of Sheppey |
||
|
Good morning
Yesterday we received numerous reports of doorstep callers on Isle of Sheppey, claiming to be part of of a prison release programme and offering items for sale including household items and kids arts & crafts sets at unreasonably high prices. One of the doorstep callers was also reported to be asking personal questions of the resident such as whether they lived alone, had any pets etc.
Whilst there intentions are unknown at this time and they may have lanyards or ID cards which look official, I would recommend that all residents are very wary of any cold callers as you don't know the quality of items being offered or what the persons intentions are.
Other general safety advice: Keep your property secure at all times Don't open the door unless you know who is outside - consider using a door chain if one is fitted or look/speak from a nearby window Don't buy products or accept services from cold callers - often they will distract you with conversation or pressurise you with a sense of urgency but you can always politely decline and shut the door Don't give out personal information to strangers Contact family/friends/neighbours for advice/support if needed If you feel unsafe or believe that a crime is in progress then call police on 999 If you want to contact police but its not an emergency you can call 101 or visit the kent police website - Home | Kent Police | ||
