Speeding on the A259 Hythe Road Dymchurch

Hello all.

I know that speeding is a problem in many areas on the Marsh but I just want to highlight a particular location that is probably used by many residents of the Marsh and of course those that are visiting/holidaymakers.

The reason that I'm highlighting this stretch of road is due to a conversation that I've had with a Roads Policing Sargeant who has informed me that they are seeing very high numbers of speeding offences, with a significant number of very high speeds along the A259 Hythe Road, Dymchurch which runs past New Beach Holiday Park (for those who weren't aware of the location).

This is a 40MPH limit between the new ALDI store in Hythe all the way to just about Burmarsh Road, (again for those who weren't aware).

As we all know, any speed limit should be respected and adhered to wherever it is but the relatively straight bit of road that passes New Beach is experiencing significant speeds which is made even more dangerous due to pedestrians wanting to cross the road from the holiday park to the beach and back and although there is a crossing, pedestrians could be anywhere along that stretch of road especially now that the schools are about to break up for the summer holidays and Dymchurch always sees an influx of holidaymakers.

As you also know there is a pub and some properties where vehicles could be pulling out of.

To give you some idea of how significant the problem is along that stretch of road, just this morning 139 traffic offences were recorded by our Roads Policing officers, this also demonstrates that my colleagues in Roads Policing are taking action against those who continue to speed and commit other road traffic offences.

I know that it is the small minority of motorists that speed excessively but it doesn't hurt for us all to be politely reminded to not take our vehicles and driving for granted and that we don't need to get from A to B as quickly as we can because none of us are in a race unless you pay for a track day of course!

In addition to this, there are still some motorists who are drink/drug driving, not wearing seatbelts and using their mobile phones whilst driving, there is absolutely no excuse to do any of these and you may not know that you've been caught committing these offences until you receive a letter from our Traffic Summons team, so to those who think that they can flout road traffic laws and everyone else's safety, watch out!

Thank you

Steve.
