On SUNDAY 1st June 2025, Police Officers were on a proactive foot patrol along the Riverside between the Stonebridge Estate and Barton Mill. This was due to the reports being received from local residents about drug activity, including dealing, takes place in this area.

During the patrol, two young males were seen sitting on one of the benches, one of the males smoking a cannabis joint. Both parties were searched under S.23 Misuse of Drugs Act where the other male had 16 bags of varied sizes of herbal cannabis on his possession.

The male then made an attempt to escape but was prevented and arrested on suspicion of concern and supply of Class B - Cannabis. A search of the detained person's property led to finding further bags of cannabis, which was also seized. 

The defendant was given an appropriate disposal and a total of 21 bags of herbal cannabis was seized for destruction.

This would not have been possible without the effective communication from local residents, who communicated to police about this concern and I would like to thank those individuals in working with police in regards to this anti-social behaviour.

I would also like to thank the two probationer officers who were with me at the time and competently managed the stop search, arrest, further search and booking in of the seized drugs, with minimal support from me.
