A flat linked to drugs and disorder has been closed down following action by police officers in Dover. On Wednesday 21 May 2025, Kent Police successfully applied at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court for a closure order on the property in Stembrook Court. Police had responded to reports that drink and drug users were frequenting the address at all hours of the day and night, causing nuisance behaviour, and damaging communal spaces. As well as the property being in a poor state, concerns relating to drug dealing and violent behaviour had been highlighted to police by residents. Police worked with the community to gather the evidence necessary to bring the closure order before the court. The closure order is now in place. Under Section 80 of the Antisocial Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, the order prevents anyone other than emergency services or social services from visiting the property for three months. If anyone does enter the flat, they risk a custodial sentence or an unlimited fine. After receiving the court order, officers attended on Thursday 22 May to secure the property, and to prevent any further visitors to the address. Police also worked alongside partner agencies to ensure the residents who had been subjected to the disorder were reassured and updated about the actions taken. PC Michelle Sherwood said: “The closure of this property is a direct response to the serious concerns raised by residents. Extensive work by local officers in partnership with residents and Dover District Council has enabled Kent Police to tackle the issue head on. “By closing this property, we are sending a clear message that antisocial behaviour will not be tolerated. The actions taken alongside our partner agencies are about keeping communities safe and creating an environment where everyone can feel secure in their own home.”
