General Update

Dear residents,

We hope you are enjoying the good weather. A quick update regarding what’s been happening in your areas.

Over the past two weeks we have arrested 4 people on suspicion of theft that have taken place in the Town centre, three of which were prolific shoplifters.  Further arrests were made over our wards, 1 for harassment, 1 for harassment and criminal damage and the last for immigration offences.  5 of the above have been charged and bailed and the others bailed pending further enquiries.

We too have the power to deal with certain thefts through out of court disposals where the suspects have not previously been dealt with for a theft offence. Over the past two weeks we dealt with eight suspects via this method. The aim is to stop further offending at the earliest opportunity.

We have also attended some community engagement events during the holidays. Most recently we were asked if we could attend a Beavers class to give an input to the children about what the Police do. This was well received by the children who enjoyed trying on the uniform and looking around our Police car and van. Should anyone be interested in us attending similar clubs please contact us and we aim to arrange a visit.

With the weather getting warmer as expected we continue to see more people out and about enjoying the weather. With several calls received to the parks about anti-social behaviour we have been focusing on the areas highlighted to us conducting patrols both in uniform and plain clothes. One youth was found to be in possession of cannabis. In certain circumstances we can offer youths referrals if they have no previous history with drugs and they meet the other criteria needed to offer the referral. The hope is to educate youths around the use of drugs and the implications it can have on their lives. If the course is completed it negates the need to prosecute though if found again, we would have no option but to take the matter further.

Should you identify a park or indeed an area on your ward that is suffering with anti-social behaviour or criminality please message us and we will aim to tackle the issues raised.

Please continue to engage with us about what matters most to you and use the share button below to share into other social media platforms with friends and family who will find this message useful.

We hope you have a good week.
