Hello all.
POLICE PATROLS.
My colleague PC James Hockless and I are the Romney Marsh Beat Officers and policing the Marsh is our primary role.
So that you are in no doubt, we patrol as much of the Marsh as possible which could be anytime of the day or night. I've noticed some positive comments on social media about us being on patrol in New Romney, thank you for that, but for those living in all other areas of the Marsh please don't think that we don't visit your areas because we do. There are several reasons as to why we might patrol certain areas more than others and obviously somewhere like New Romney town is going to generate more issues for us than the rural villages and therefore I'm sure you'll agree that we need to be where the problems are. However, we do cover a lot of ground in our vehicle and unless you look out of your window at the time we drive past then of course it might seem that we never come to where you live. If you are experiencing any issues that you think we should know about then please contact me 13183@kent.police.uk and we will get back to you as soon as we can even if it's not a police matter, we will point you in the right direction. However, if you have a crime to report please use the online reporting tool on the Kent Police website or dial 101 if you're not able to use the online reporting and of course if it's a crime in progress, please ring 999.
DOORSTEP SELLERS.
Just another quick reminder as I have received some reports over the last couple of days of a chap knocking on doors trying to sell his wares!
Door to door sellers must have a ‘pedlar’s certificate/licence' to do this, so if they knock at your door to sell items which are normally in a large holdall and don't produce a bonafide pedlar's certificate, then please politely decline.
Some will say that they're ex-armed forces, which they may well be, some will say they've been released from prison and doing door to door sales is part of their probation/rehabilitation (unlikely) however, it doesn't really matter what reason they give, if they haven't got a pedlar's licence, then they shouldn't be doing it and there might be a reason why they haven't applied at the local police station for one, bearing in mind the licence only costs £12.25.
Eligibility for a pedlar’s certificateTo apply you need to: be 17 or over have lived in the local authority where you’re applying for at least 28 days How to applyApply for a pedlar’s certificate at your local police station. You need to take: 2 photos of you a form of identity, eg a passport or driving licence proof of your address details of a referee The certificate costs £12.25 and lasts 1 year.
Fines and penaltiesYou must produce your certificate if someone asks to see it. If you work as a pedlar without a certificate - or let someone else use yours - you could be fined up to £200. You could also get a prison sentence of up to 6 months if you either: give false information when you apply make or carry a forged certificate
Thank you Steve. | ||||
