Car Fires

Good Afternoon,

You may be aware of a number of car fires that occurred overnight and we wanted to provide an update to reassure the community.

Between 2am and 3.30am a number of reports were made that cars had been found alight in Canterbury Road, Walton Road, Military Road, and Enbrook Valley as well as Whitenbrook in Hythe. An investigation is ongoing to establish whether all of the fires may be linked.

During the early hours of the same morning, police on patrol in Hythe had reason to stop a man who was acting suspiciously. An officer was assaulted and an arrest was made.

The 54-year-old man from Folkestone was arrested on suspicion of arson, assaulting an emergency worker, and driving while unfit through drink. He remains in custody while enquiries continue.

Officers are appealing for anyone who might have seen any of the incidents, or has information, doorbell or private CCTV footage in the areas mentioned, to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289 quoting  46/59779/25.

Kind regards

Police Sergeant Paula Cutter
