Dear Resident, Do you have a modern car with a keyless entry? If so then please read on. I would like to advise all residents within the Kippinton area and surroundings to be vigilant following a reported suspicious incident on Kippington Road, Sevenoaks. On the evening of Thursday 18th April 2024 around 22:30 hours, a suspicious individual was recorded by a resident’s CCTV system appearing to scout a vehicle parked on their driveway. This behaviour suggests the possibility of preparatory actions for vehicle theft, specifically through methods such as relay thefts. Police will be proactively patrolling these areas over the coming weeks to try and apprehend these individuals. Understanding Relay TheftsRelay theft is a method used by criminals to steal vehicles without needing physical keys. Thieves use electronic devices to receive signals from car keys inside homes and transmit them to another device near the vehicle. This tricks the car into thinking the key is present, allowing thieves to unlock and start the vehicle. Preventative measuresKeep Car Keys Secure: Store your car keys far from doors and windows. Use a signal-blocking pouch or box to prevent thieves from capturing key fob signals. Physical Barriers: Use gates, barriers, or secure parking posts to make access to your vehicle more difficult. Lighting and CCTV: Ensure your vehicle is parked in well-lit areas and cover it with CCTV cameras if possible. Use Steering Wheel Locks: Invest in a quality steering wheel lock. This additional layer of security makes it more difficult for thieves to drive away with your vehicle. Install a Car Alarm: A loud car alarm can deter thieves and attract attention. Ensure it is professionally installed and properly maintained. Consider GPS Tracking: Install a GPS tracking system in your vehicle. This technology can help police locate your vehicle quickly if it's stolen. Remove Valuables: Don't leave valuables inside your vehicle. Upgrade Security Systems: Explore advanced security systems, such as immobilisers. Stay Alert: Be aware of and report any suspicious behaviour in your area to the police immediately. Should you observe any suspicious activity, please report it to police immediately. Together, we can keep our community safe. | ||||
